Help us raise awareness and funds for brain research in Stroke, Parkinson's, Depression, Neuromuscular Disease and Dementia

Why Yoga for our Brain Health Awareness Week community fundraiser?!

We are finding more studies that indicate that yoga exercise has positive effects on various aspects of health, including cardiovascular, muscle and respiratory systems. Patients’ suffering from stroke, Parkinson’s and neuromuscular diseases, are well aware of the importance of stretching, strength and balance exercises - key aspects emphasized in yoga exercise. More recently, the focus has been to assess its benefits on brain function and mental health. It appears that individuals who practice yoga demonstrate decreased anxiety, fewer depressive symptoms and improvement of cognitive and memory function, which is seen across all age groups. This suggests that yoga exercise has a positive effect on the brain and the body!

It was also very important that we pick an activity that is welcoming and inclusive to all ages and physical abilities. The option of performing low-impact and high-impact moves in a relaxed environment is best for our patients and community members, and we would like to everyone to feel comfortable!
